Password Protected Directories
Discover how to set up a secure and user-only area in your website with password-protected directories.
A password-protected directory or area is a folder that could be accessed when a username and a password are typed in, so no unauthorized people can check out its content. This function could be used for the primary folder of a particular Internet site or exclusively for a certain subfolder in accordance with your needs. As an example, if you are building a new Internet site and you don't want people to see it prior to it being ready, you should limit the access to it completely, and if you need only some individuals to be able to access certain files, you could password-protect only a certain folder, while the remainder of the site can be seen by anybody. Anyway, a “403 Forbidden” error page shall appear when the login details the visitor types in aren't accurate. Even a direct link to a file will not work provided any folder above it is password-protected.
